European Rover Challenge 2024
Jan-Peter and Artur represented LibreCube at the European Rover Challenge with a booth in the exhibitor zone.
|
Visitors, especially kids, had a blast test-driving the rover using our laptop-based remote control—though most opted to go over the rocks instead of around them! Despite the rough handling, the batteries held up surprisingly well, and we only had to replace a wheel once.
|
While we didn’t meet as many experienced rover developers as expected, the event was a great opportunity to showcase our work and engage with curious visitors. We’re looking forward to having more in-depth technical discussions at future events.
|
Still, the weather was fantastic, and we even discovered a new favourite—Polish pear beer!

Google Summer of Code Mentor Summit
From 4-6 of October, more than 250 mentors and organization admins from more than 60 countries across 6 continents came together at the Google complex in Sunnyvale California to network and share their insights. This year, the event commemorated the 20th anniversary of Google Summer of Code!
|
Husseinat attended this event and was discussing LibreCube inside-out to other attendees! And she also managed to slip the LibreCube stickers right into the Google plate ?! A more detailed report to follow in the next newsletter.

Python Space Link Extension
Now, you can connect to the NASA and ESA ground stations—provided you have network access, of course. But that's not all—you can also test it with any other SLE provider, like the ESA SLEAPI, for which we created a simple, easy-to-use Docker project.

Rover Project Status
We're currently enhancing the rover documentation, especially the assembly guides. If you have access to a 3D printer and some financial resources, please let us know—we’d love to help you to build your own!
|
Our main technical focus is shifting from prototype Pyboards to a fully redundant C++ microcontroller solution. We’ll dive deeper into these details during upcoming chats and technical meetups.
